I'm Liadan. I have used this name for over 20 years, on screen, and in the Craft. It hurts that someone got to livejournal with it first!
I live in far Northern California, in the tiny canyon town of Dunsmuir, a few miles from the base of Mt. Shasta.
I'm a middle-aged pagan hippie poet artist gardener musician mother and wife who has a day job as a graphic design consultant for a large, California-based financial institution. The cool thing is that I work from home full-time, these days, and love it.
Middle-aged: I like it well enough. I'm happier that I have ever been at any other point in my life, mostly because of my beloved partner. Yes, I'm pounds overweight and seriously under-exercised, but I'm comfortable in my body, and my face hasn't fallen yet.
Pagan: I'm a familiar face in the SF Bay Area pagan community. I've been a witch since my teens, initiated into my first coven in 1976. I'm an elder, more because of long involvement than mighty achievement, in the NROOGD traditon. I still help to produce public seasonal rituals for NROOGD. For 19 years, I built the huge, 40-ft North Altar/Altar of the Dead at Reclaiming's Samhain Spiral Dance ritual. I've also been active with Hrafnar, a Norse Asatru garth, and Seidhjallr, a small group reviving the Norse shamanic practice of the seer. I've taken on a role or two with Magical Acts Ritual Theatre.
Hippie: been there, done that, loved it, still got the T-shirt somewhere, and yes, it's tiedyed. Gave up the drugs MANY years ago, but I tried them all, some more than a little.
Poet: Many of my current friends don't even know that this was the grand passion of my youth. It has dwindled to a trickle these days: I don't really know why. I'm thirsty.
Artist: I make papers of natural fibers, collaging them with dried flowers. I make masks of gods and goddesses and animal totems. I sew, on occasion, and have studied card weaving, an ancient off-loom technique that I hope to get back into.
Gardener: I can talk/write a blue streak about organic gardening, Permaculture, mushrooms, roses. This is the real source of my spirituality and joie de vivre: there is Beauty in the world!
Musician: I'm an advanced-beginning player of wire-strung Celtic harp, or clairseach. Technique and material varies from the more familiar folk harp, as wire harp is an historic instrument undergoing a modest revival. I play Native American flute (especially beside waterfalls) and alto recorder, as well.
Mother: I have two, of the blood: Mallory is precocious, a gifted actress, delightful character, and dear friend as well as kid. My older daughter, Jessica, is a hardworking Art History major and absolutely awesome artist, my dear Spudling. I also have two stepdaughters, Alexeis and Ananda, rollicking young women who I enjoy immensely. No sons. That's OK.
Wife: I've been married three times, had lots of other relationships. I like to think that I don't discriminate as to the sex of my lovers, but I'm very monogamous. Maybe I'm just not emotionally mature enough to be poly. My third and current marriage, to my husband David, is the One, the great lifetime bond. With this man I have healed all the sexual hurts, smoothed away all the emotional damage, attained a level of friendship, spiritual partnership and sexual ecstasy that I once believed impossible. And we are still growing and laughing together.
Work: I took a temp job to support my children during the insane breakup with an alcoholic ex. 14 years later, I'm with the same company, happily doing what I do well, supporting an internal communications team with the organization, design, layout and editing of team newsletters and misc. graphics.
